Types of Ration Cards in Jharkhand — Understand This First
Before checking the list, it helps to know which category your card belongs to, because the entitlement differs for each.
1. PHH — Priority Household Card: Issued to priority households under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). Each member gets 5 kg of foodgrains per month. In Jharkhand, the maximum coverage fixed under NFSA is 2,64,25,385 beneficiaries.
2. AAY — Antyodaya Anna Yojana Card: For the poorest families. Each family gets 35 kg of foodgrains per month. This card goes to households that are economically the most vulnerable.
3. Green Card — Jharkhand State Food Security Scheme (JSFSS): Poor families left out of NFSA coverage are covered by the Jharkhand government’s own State Food Security Scheme. Green Card holders get 5 kg of foodgrains per member per month. The scheme targets up to 20 lakh beneficiaries.
Special categories: Under the Annapurna Yojana, eligible elderly beneficiaries get 10 kg of rice free every month. Under the PVTG Dakiya Yojana, around 75,000 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group families receive 35 kg of rice free every month, delivered to their homes.
PMGKAY benefit: NFSA beneficiaries currently receive their entitled foodgrains free of cost under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) — so no payment is needed for the fixed entitlement.
Method 1 — Check Your Name in the Jharkhand Ration Card List 2026 (Aahar Portal)
The most reliable method is the official Aahar portal. It works on mobile too.
Step 1 — Open aahar.jharkhand.gov.in in your mobile or computer browser.
Step 2 — In the homepage menu, choose the “Beneficiary Card Details” option.
Step 3 — Now click on “Eligibility List (Monthly)”.
Step 4 — From the dropdowns, select your district, block, dealer (ration shopkeeper), card type, month and year.
Step 5 — Enter the captcha code shown on the screen and click “Submit”.
Step 6 — The complete list for your selected area will open. It shows the ration card number, head of family name, father/husband name, card type, family member count, dealer name and similar details.
Pro tip: The list is updated every month, so always check the current month’s list. Looking at an old month’s list can create confusion.
Method 2 — Search Directly by Name or Ration Card Number
If you do not want to search through the whole list, use the direct search option.
Step 1 — Go to aahar.jharkhand.gov.in.
Step 2 — Open the “Eligibility” / “Cardholder Search” option under the “Know Your Card” section.
Step 3 — Enter whatever details you have — district, name, father name, ration card number, block and dealer name.
Step 4 — Click “Submit” — your card details will appear on the screen.
This method is most useful when you only want to know whether your card is active and which members are linked to it.
Method 3 — District-Wise / Village-Wise List
Many people want the full list of their village — for example, to see whose card has been made in the neighbourhood. The portal has a district-wise cardholder details option, where after selecting a district, the block and village/ward list opens. From there, you can view your village’s list.
How to Check New Ration Card Application Status (JSFSS Portal)
After applying for a new card, the biggest worry is where the application is stuck. Check the status like this:
Step 1 — Open jsfss.jharkhand.gov.in.
Step 2 — Select the “Already Registered” option.
Step 3 — Enter your Acknowledgement Number.
Step 4 — In the Password column, enter the last 8 digits of the Aadhaar number of the head of the family.
Step 5 — Fill the captcha and click “Login” — the current status of your application will appear on the screen.
How to Apply for a New Ration Card (2026 Process)
If you do not have a ration card yet, there are two routes — online and offline.
Online application:
Step 1 — Go to jsfss.jharkhand.gov.in and choose the new ration card application option.
Step 2 — Fill in the head of family’s details — name, address, Aadhaar number, mobile number, and information of all family members.
Step 3 — Upload the required documents (list below).
Step 4 — Submit the form and keep the Acknowledgement Number safe. You will need this number to check the status later.
Offline application: You can fill and submit the form at your nearest Pragya Kendra (CSC) or District Supply Office. In Jharkhand, camps like “Sarkar Aapke Dwar” are also held from time to time, where new card applications are accepted.
Documents required:
- Aadhaar card of the head of the family
- Residence proof (electricity bill, Voter ID, etc.)
- Passport-size photographs of all family members
- Income certificate (where applicable)
- Copy of the first page of the bank passbook
- Caste/category certificate (where applicable)
Keep in mind: In a ration card, the head of the family is usually the eldest woman aged 18 years or above. Fill the Aadhaar numbers of all members correctly — a wrong Aadhaar is the most common reason applications get stuck.
Why e-KYC Is Necessary and How to Complete It
If your name is not showing in the list, or your ration has stopped, the most common reason is incomplete e-KYC. The government has made linking ration cards with Aadhaar (e-KYC / Aadhaar seeding) mandatory, to remove fake and duplicate cards.
How to complete e-KYC:
- Visit your ration dealer (fair price shop) — e-KYC is done there on the PoS machine using fingerprint authentication.
- Or visit your nearest Pragya Kendra (CSC) to complete e-KYC.
- Carry the Aadhaar cards of all family members when going for e-KYC.
- After e-KYC, take the receipt/confirmation and check your name again on the portal after a few days.
If your name still does not appear after e-KYC: Your card may have been held for another reason — such as a duplicate entry, migration, or an error in documents. In that case, do not rely on the dealer alone; visit the District Supply Office directly for information.
3 Ways to Download Your Ration Card
1. From the Aahar portal: Open your card details on aahar.jharkhand.gov.in and save/print the details.
2. Mera Ration app: The central government’s “Mera Ration” mobile app provides ration-card related information and services — you can view and manage your card in it.
3. DigiLocker: Log in to the DigiLocker app/website, search for “Jharkhand Ration Card”, and verify with your ration card number or Aadhaar-linked details. A digital card from DigiLocker is as valid as the physical original.
Name Not in the List? — Troubleshooting
- Wrong district/block selected: The most common mistake. Select as per the district and dealer written on your card.
- Looking at an old month’s list: Always check the current month’s Eligibility List.
- Incomplete e-KYC: Complete e-KYC by the method explained above.
- Different spelling of name: The spelling in the list sometimes differs from Aadhaar. Try searching by father/husband name or ration card number.
- Card became inactive: A card can become inactive if ration was not collected for a long time or if verification failed. Visit the DSO to ask about the reactivation process.
- New application still in process: New cards take time. Keep checking the status on the JSFSS portal and keep your Acknowledgement Number safe.
Beware of Fraud in the Name of Ration Cards
- If anyone asks for money to make a ration card or add your name to the list, understand — it is fraud. Application is free.
- Enter your details only on the official portals aahar.jharkhand.gov.in and jsfss.jharkhand.gov.in. Never enter your Aadhaar number, OTP or bank details on an unknown website or WhatsApp link.
- If some “agent” asks for a photo of your card or a copy of your Aadhaar, promising a quick card, refuse.
- Never share your OTP with anyone — no government department ever asks for OTP on a phone call.
