What Is Mahtari Vandan Yojana?

The Mahtari Vandan Yojana is the Chhattisgarh government’s biggest scheme for women. It was launched on 10 March 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi — the BJP government fulfilled this promise after winning the November 2023 assembly elections. The scheme aims to make women financially strong and self-reliant.

Under the scheme, every eligible woman receives Rs 1,000 every month (Rs 12,000 per year) directly in her Aadhaar-linked bank account via DBT. This scheme is built on the model of Madhya Pradesh’s Ladli Behna Yojana.

What Is the Objective of the Scheme?

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has said — “The strength of Chhattisgarh’s mothers is the greatest strength of society.” Women’s economic and social empowerment is the foundation of a developed state, and that is this scheme’s objective.

The special thing is that the scheme’s impact has reached remote and tribal areas like Bastar. The participation of thousands of women in the Mahtari Vandan Sammelan in Jagdalpur showed the scheme is not limited to cities. Beneficiaries are using this money for household needs, children’s education, health, and small businesses — which has also strengthened women’s decision-making role in families.

32nd Installment Released — ₹632.40 Crore Sent on 8 October 2026

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai released the 32nd installment of the Mahtari Vandan Yojana on 8 October 2026 at a programme in Durg, transferring the amount to beneficiaries’ bank accounts via DBT in a single click. In this installment, 67,38,217 women received a total of ₹632.40 crore. With this, the scheme has completed 32 months, and total assistance of ₹20,708.11 crore has reached women’s accounts so far.

In Durg district, 3,89,507 women received ₹37.19 crore. Payment for the 12th installment of 6,903 beneficiaries in the Niyad Nellanar area was also approved alongside. Payment status can be checked on the official portal mahtarivandan.cgstate.gov.in or the mobile app.

Special about the 31st installment: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai released the installment before Raksha Bandhan itself — at the Matru Shakti Samman Samaroh in Balod district. The government said the money would reach women’s accounts before the festival.

This is not the first time — the government often releases the installment before festivals, so women can prepare for the festival. It is called a “gift of happiness and self-reliance”. The 25th installment was also released on Women’s Day (8 March 2026) with a single digital click at the Mahtari Vandan Sammelan in Jagdalpur.

So far, more than Rs 16,237 crore has been distributed under the scheme. This year’s budget has a provision of Rs 8,200 crore so the scheme continues without interruption.

How Different Is It from Ladli Behna?

Many women ask what the difference is between Mahtari Vandan and Madhya Pradesh’s Ladli Behna Yojana. The truth is Mahtari Vandan is built on the same model — both send money directly to accounts every month. The differences are only:

  • Amount: Rs 1,000/month in Mahtari Vandan, Rs 1,250–1,500/month in Ladli Behna
  • Eligibility: Mahtari Vandan for married/widowed/divorced women; Ladli Behna for all eligible women aged 21–60
  • State: Each scheme is only for its own state’s residents — one woman cannot take both benefits
