If you are a girl student studying in Assam, you have probably heard the name Nijut Moina Yojana many times in the last two years. Friends talk about it, teachers mention it, and social media posts share many different amounts and dates. With so much information going around, it is easy to get confused about who really gets the money, how much they get, and what to do if the money has not arrived yet.

This guide explains the scheme in simple and clear language. It covers what the scheme is, who can get the benefit, who cannot, how much is paid at each level of study, how to apply through your institution, how the money reaches your bank account, and what to do if your payment is delayed. Read it from start to finish, because the rules matter as much as the amount.

What is Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Yojana

Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Aasoni, also called MMNMA, is a scheme of the Higher Education Department of the Government of Assam. It was announced in the 2024-25 state budget and launched on 6 October 2024. Later, the scheme was expanded in the 2.0 phase, which covers 2025-26 and 2026-27.

The purpose of the scheme is to give monthly financial support to girl students studying in government, provincialised, and approved venture institutions in Assam. The aim is to reduce dropout and to discourage child marriage. Many girls leave studies in the middle because of money pressure, travel cost, household work, or early marriage pressure. A small but regular monthly amount can help a student continue her studies without depending only on family income for every small expense.

The money is sent directly to the bank account of the student. It does not pass through any middleman. The payment reaches you only when your name is in the verified list from your institution, your attendance rule is met, and your bank account is seeded with Aadhaar.

Revised monthly amounts for 2026-27

The monthly amount depends on the level of study. The revised 2.0 amounts apply for 2026-27. Many older articles still show Rs 1,000 for HS students. That is the OLD amount and it is no longer correct. For 2026-27, the correct HS amount is Rs 800 per month.

Level of study Monthly amount (2026-27, revised 2.0)
HS (Class 11-12) Rs 800 per month
UG (Graduation) Rs 1,250 per month
PG (Post Graduation) Rs 2,500 per month
B.Ed Rs 2,500 per month
Polytechnic (Years 1-2) Rs 800 per month
Polytechnic (Year 3) Rs 1,250 per month

The amount is paid for 10 months in a year. It is NOT paid in June-July or in vacations longer than one month. So an HS student gets Rs 8,000 in 10 months, a UG student gets Rs 12,500, and a PG or B.Ed student gets Rs 25,000, if all rules are met. If you move from HS to UG, your amount changes to the UG amount only after your new admission and verification are complete in your institution.

Who is eligible

The benefit is given only to students who meet ALL the eligibility conditions. If even one condition is not met, the benefit can stop.

  • The student must be a permanent resident girl student of Assam.
  • The student must be enrolled in a government / provincialised / approved venture institution.
  • The student must be studying in HS (Class 11-12), UG, PG, Polytechnic, or B.Ed.
  • The student must be unmarried. Married girls are eligible only for PG and B.Ed.
  • The student must have 70 percent or more attendance.

The attendance rule is very important. If attendance falls below 70 percent, the benefit can be affected. If you were absent for a long time because of illness or a special reason, talk to your institution and get your situation clarified.

For girls under this scheme, no income limit has been stated. The Rs 4 lakh income limit belongs to Nijut Babu, which is the scheme for BOYS. It does not apply to girls under Nijut Moina Yojana. Do not mix the two schemes.

How the installment reaches your bank

The money under this scheme is sent through DBT, which means Direct Benefit Transfer. The money goes directly to the Aadhaar-seeded bank account of the student. There is no cash payment, and the money does not pass through the hands of the institution. The work of the institution is to verify names and forward the list, not to send the money.

For payment, three things must be correct. First, your name must be correct in the institution list. Second, your attendance and eligibility record must be correct. Third, your bank account must be seeded with Aadhaar and must be active. If any one of these three is wrong, the payment can get stuck.

When the money arrives, you get information through an SMS from the bank or in the bank statement. Many students are paid together, so sometimes there can be a small delay in the bank. If other students with you have received the money and you have not, do not panic. First check by the method given below.

First installment of 2026-27: how much money and how many girls

The first installment of 2026-27 was released on 15 October 2026 by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Jyoti-Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir, Khanapara, Guwahati. The event was earlier planned for 12 October, but it was moved to 15 October.

In this installment, a total of Rs 48.22 crore was sent to 4,39,598 girls. This amount was one month amount for each student, sent through DBT to Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts. The table below shows the level-wise number of girls.

Level Number of girls
Class 11 1,07,874
Class 12 81,208
Graduation 2,34,292
PG 13,971
Polytechnic 1,499
B.Ed 754
Total 4,39,598

On the same day, money was also sent to boys under a separate scheme. Under Nijut Babu, Rs 10.37 crore was paid to 1,02,501 boys. This is a separate scheme for boys. Do not mix it with Nijut Moina Yojana. The rules and eligibility of the two schemes are different.

When will the next installment come

The next installment date has NOT been announced. No official date has been shared for the next installment. So do not treat any date shared in a social media post, video, or message as correct, unless it appears in the official portal or in a notice from your institution.

When the next installment date is announced, the information will come through your institution and the official portal. Till then, maintain your attendance, keep checking the status of your bank account, and stay in touch with your institution. Avoid rumours about the installment date and trust only official information.

What to do if the money has not arrived

If other girls with you have received the first installment and you have not, follow the steps below. Do not click on any unknown link, and do not share your OTP or bank password with anyone. There is no fake status-check tool for this scheme.

  1. Contact the nodal officer of your institution. First ask the nodal officer or office of your institution whether your name was in the list or whether there was any gap in verification.
  2. Check Aadhaar-bank seeding. Check with your bank or through the official service of the bank whether your account is seeded with Aadhaar and is active. If seeding is not done, complete it through the bank process.
  3. Wait a little. Sometimes DBT payments get delayed by one or two days because of the bank. After confirmation from the institution, waiting a little is also correct.
  4. Keep a written record. Note down what reply you got from the institution. Keep a note of which officer you spoke to, when you spoke, and what was told to you.

Please note that no official helpline number has been verified for this scheme. So do not trust any helpline number shown on the internet. For correct information, trust only your institution and the official portals directorateofhighereducation.assam.gov.in and highereducation.assam.gov.in.

The government has proposed an expansion of this scheme, with talk of adding ANM, GNM, B.Sc Nursing, and some more universities. This is only announced and proposed at present. It is NOT yet implemented. If you are a nursing student, do not treat this proposal as a live scheme yet. Wait until the official notice confirms that nursing courses are included.
