Railway Bonus 2026: 78 Days PLB up to Rs 17,951 and Ad-hoc Bonus Rs 6,908 — Who Gets What

Just before Dussehra 2026, the Central Government has announced two big bonuses for central employees. The first bonus is for railway employees, called the Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB). The second bonus is for central employees who do not fall under any PLB scheme, called the Ad-hoc Bonus. The two bonuses are different, their amounts are different, and their eligible employees are also different. In this article, we explain the full details of both bonuses in simple language – who will get how much, what the eligibility is, how the amount is calculated, when the payment will be made, and which fake news to avoid.

What is Railway Bonus 2026?

On 14 October 2026, the Union Cabinet approved the Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB) for railway employees for the financial year 2025-26. This bonus is equal to 78 days of wages. It will benefit 11,40,770 non-gazetted railway employees across the country. For this, the Government has made a provision of Rs 2,009.61 crore.

Productivity Linked Bonus means a bonus linked to productivity. It is being given on the basis of the work done by the Railways in 2025-26. In this financial year, the Railways carried 1,670 million tonnes of freight and about 7.41 billion passengers to their destinations. This strong performance is the reason for the bonus.

Railway PLB: How Much Will You Get?

Under the Railway PLB, every eligible employee will get up to a maximum of Rs 17,951. This is the maximum amount – not everyone will get the same amount. The bonus is calculated on the basis of the employee monthly wages.

The calculation rule is this – for employees whose monthly wages are more than Rs 7,000, their wages for calculation will be taken as Rs 7,000 only. That is, the bonus will be calculated on a maximum monthly wage of Rs 7,000. The 78 days of wages calculated on this Rs 7,000 limit comes to a maximum of Rs 17,951. Those whose wages are less than Rs 7,000 will get the bonus according to their actual wages.

To understand with an example – if an employee monthly wages are Rs 7,000 or more, he will get the full 78 days of bonus, that is, the maximum Rs 17,951. If the wages are less, the amount will be lower in proportion.

The eligible categories include:

  • Track Maintainers
  • Loco Pilots
  • Train Managers (Guards)
  • Station Masters
  • Supervisors
  • Technicians and Helpers
  • Pointsmen
  • Ministerial Staff
  • Other Group C staff

In total, 11,40,770 employees come under this scheme. This number is of the non-gazetted railway employees of the Railways.

One important point – RPF (Railway Protection Force) and RPSF (Railway Protection Special Force) personnel are excluded from this Railway PLB.

When Will the Railway PLB Be Paid?

The Government has said that this bonus will be paid in the same mode as the employee gets salary. Priority will be given to paying it before Durga Puja / Dussehra.

What is Ad-hoc Bonus 2026?

Now let us talk about the second bonus. The Department of Expenditure of the Finance Ministry issued an Office Memorandum on 15 October 2026 for the Ad-hoc Bonus. This bonus is for central employees who are not covered by any Productivity Linked Bonus scheme.

This bonus will be equal to 30 days of emoluments. That is, it will be equal to 30 days of the employee emoluments.

Ad-hoc Bonus: How Much Will You Get?

Under the Ad-hoc Bonus, the maximum amount is Rs 6,908. It is calculated like this – Rs 7,000 multiplied by 30, divided by 30.4, equals Rs 6,907.89, rounded to Rs 6,908.

This is the maximum amount. Employees whose emoluments are less than Rs 7,000 per month will get a lower amount according to their actual emoluments.

The eligible employees include:

  • Group C employees
  • Non-gazetted Group B employees
  • Those who are not in any PLB scheme

There are two more conditions – the employee must be in service on 31 March 2026, and must have completed at least 6 months of continuous service in the financial year 2025-26.

Employees whose service is between 6 months and 12 months will get a pro-rata bonus. That is, the bonus will be given in proportion to the months of service, rounded to the nearest month.

Ad-hoc Bonus: CAPF, Armed Forces and Union Territories

Eligible personnel of the CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) and the Armed Forces are also included in this Ad-hoc Bonus if they meet the conditions.

In addition, employees of the administrations of the Union Territories who follow the central pattern and are not in any other bonus or ex-gratia scheme are also included.

Difference Between the Two Bonuses – Avoid Confusion

Point Railway PLB Ad-hoc Bonus
For whom Non-gazetted railway employees Central employees not in any PLB scheme
Amount Maximum Rs 17,951 Maximum Rs 6,908
Announcement Cabinet approval on 14 October 2026 Finance Ministry OM on 15 October 2026
Calculation basis 78 days of wages 30 days of emoluments
Service condition As per the Railway PLB order In service on 31 March 2026 and at least 6 months continuous service in 2025-26
RPF / RPSF Excluded Not applicable in the same way; CAPF and Armed Forces personnel are eligible if they meet the conditions

In simple language – railway employees will get the Railway PLB, and other central employees who are not in any PLB scheme will get the Ad-hoc Bonus. An employee will get only one of the two, not both.

Beware of the Fake Letter – RBE No. 101/2026

A fake letter about this bonus is spreading on WhatsApp. That letter mentions RBE No. 101/2026 and claims Rs 41,149 for 78 days.

The Railway Board clarified on 7 October 2026 that this letter is fake – the signatures on it are also forged. The real maximum amount is Rs 17,951. Do not trust any letter or message that claims Rs 41,149.

DA 63% Confusion – What is the Truth?

Along with the bonus, another confusion is spreading – about the Dearness Allowance (DA). Some places are claiming that DA has become 63%.

The truth is – the currently officially approved DA rate is 60%, which has been applicable from 1 January 2026.

The 63% figure for July 2026 DA is only a calculation from the CPI-IW (Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers) formula. It is not an approved rate.

Therefore – do not treat 63% DA as the approved rate. Until an official order comes from the Government, the applicable DA rate remains 60%. There was no DA announcement in the Cabinet meeting of 14 October, and no official order had come by 16 October.
