What Is Subhadra Yojana?
The Subhadra Yojana is the Odisha government’s biggest scheme for women. It was launched on 17 September 2024 by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The scheme aims to make women economically strong — so they can take their own decisions and become socially, politically, and economically self-reliant.
Under the scheme, every eligible woman gets a total of Rs 50,000 over 5 years — Rs 10,000 every year, coming in two installments of Rs 5,000 each. With an annual budget of Rs 11,000 crore, it is Odisha’s largest women-centric scheme. So far, around Rs 25,800 crore has been distributed to more than 1 crore women.
What Is the Objective of the Scheme?
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi himself said — “Subhadra Yojana is not merely a financial assistance scheme, but a symbol of women’s empowerment.” Its objective is to make women capable of taking their own decisions — self-reliant socially, politically, and economically.
With an annual budget of Rs 11,000 crore, it is Odisha’s largest women-centric scheme. The special thing is that the money goes directly to the woman’s account — not to the head of the family’s account. This puts real economic power in the woman’s hands.
The Installment Pattern — Few People Know This
Subhadra Yojana installments come on two fixed occasions every year — Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi Purnima) and International Women’s Day (8 March). This pattern has continued since the beginning:
| Installment | Date | Occasion | Beneficiaries |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1st | 17 September 2024 | Scheme launch | 25 lakh women (Rs 1,250 crore) |
| 2nd | 8 March 2025 | Women’s Day | Crossed 1 crore mark |
| 3rd | 9 August 2025 | Raksha Bandhan | 1 crore+ women |
| 4th | 8 March 2026 | Women’s Day | 1,02,12,665 women (Rs 5,106 crore) |
| 5th | 28 August 2026 | Rakhi Purnima | 1,03,26,162 women (Rs 5,160 crore) |
| 6th | ~8 March 2027 (expected) | Women’s Day | No official date announced yet |
Special about the 5th installment: On 28 August 2026, the Chief Minister released the Rs 5,000 installment from Lathipada in Nayagarh. 2,21,054 women received Subhadra money for the first time — meaning women found eligible late were also included.
What about missed installments? On 24 April 2025, 1.7 lakh women were given a catch-up payment of Rs 10,000 who had missed earlier phases. So if you joined late, the previous installments can come together.

Money Not Received? These Could Be the Reasons
1. Bank account not linked with Aadhaar — The most common reason. The account must be Aadhaar-seeded. Get NPCI mapping checked.
2. Incomplete e-KYC — e-KYC must be completed through face authentication via the Subhadra app.
3. Mistake in the form — Wrong information or an incomplete form stops the payment.
4. Cross-department verification pending — Verification happens across departments, which takes time.
5. Found ineligible — An income-tax payer in the family, a government employee/pensioner, or receiving more than Rs 1,500/month from another government scheme — if any condition is broken, the installment stops.
Subhadra Debit Card and Rs 500 Bonus
A special feature of the Subhadra Yojana is the Subhadra Debit Card — every beneficiary gets a debit card issued by NPCI, making digital transactions easy.
And there is a bonus too: in every gram panchayat and urban area, the top 100 women with the highest digital transactions get an extra reward of Rs 500. So doing digital payments only brings benefits.
With the debit card, women can withdraw money from ATMs, pay at shops, and shop online too — without standing in bank queues.

The government has also launched the Women Entrepreneurship Platform — for skills, mentoring, market linkages, and financial opportunities. So far, 11,789 Subhadra beneficiaries have undergone skill training, and 27 lakh women have become self-reliant as Lakhpati Didis.
