What Is Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana?

The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana is the Maharashtra government’s biggest scheme for women. It was launched in July 2024 — then Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced it in the 2024-25 budget. The scheme aims to give monthly financial support to economically weaker women of the state so they can become self-reliant.

Under the scheme, eligible women aged 21 to 65 receive Rs 1,500 every month directly in their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts via DBT. In the 2026-27 budget, Rs 26,500 crore has been allocated for this scheme.

What Is the Objective of the Scheme?

The Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana is not just about giving money — its bigger objective is the social and economic empowerment of women. With Rs 1,500 every month, lakhs of women are contributing to household expenses, spending on children’s education, and starting small work of their own.

Since its launch, it has become Maharashtra’s most popular scheme — more than 2.3 crore women joined it. In the 2024 assembly elections, this scheme was considered a gamechanger. That is why the government calls it its flagship scheme, and the Deputy Chief Minister has clearly said it will never be shut down.

Latest Installment Update — When Will the Money Come?

Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare has announced that the October honorarium is being released — Rs 1,500 is being deposited directly into the Aadhaar-linked accounts of all eligible women. The money usually reaches accounts around the middle of the month.

But there is one big condition: women who have not completed e-KYC may have their installment withheld. The government made e-KYC mandatory in September and gave beneficiaries time to complete it. If your e-KYC is pending, complete it first — otherwise the money may get stuck.

Why Is e-KYC Mandatory? How to Complete It?

The government made e-KYC mandatory for transparency. Verification caught 12,000 accounts held in men’s names, and installments of more than 26 lakh ineligible beneficiaries (government employees, income taxpayers, duplicate applications) were stopped. e-KYC is necessary so the money reaches the right beneficiaries.

How to do e-KYC:

  1. Open the official website ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in.
  2. Click eKYC on the homepage.
  3. Enter your Aadhaar number in the e-KYC form and fill the captcha code.
  4. Tick “Yes, I agree” and press “Send OTP”.
  5. Verify with the OTP received on the Aadhaar-linked mobile.

Online e-KYC is the easiest method. If internet facility is not available, verification can also happen at field verification camps.

Verification Drive — Why Were Lakhs of Installments Stopped?

Last year the government ran a big verification campaign. The results were shocking — 26.34 lakh beneficiaries were found ineligible and their installments were stopped. These included duplicate applications, more than two applications from one family, government employees, and income taxpayers.

The biggest irregularity was that 12,000 accounts were found in men’s names — men were taking money meant for a women’s scheme. Payments to all these accounts were stopped, and money already sent to ineligible women was recovered too. Now the government is also matching beneficiary data with the Income Tax Department, so that only genuinely eligible women get the Rs 1,500. That is why e-KYC has now been made mandatory every year.

Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana Status Check — How to See Status?

Method 1 — Via portal:

  1. Open ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in.
  2. Click “Application Status” on the homepage.
  3. Enter your registration number and press “View”.
  4. Your DBT status will appear on the screen.

Method 2 — By logging in:

  1. Log in on the portal with your registered mobile number and password.
  2. Go to “Payment History” or “Application Status”.
  3. Details of all installments will appear.

Method 3 — Nari Shakti Doot app: Download the Nari Shakti Doot app from Google Play and check status with your Aadhaar or mobile number.

Money Not Received? These Could Be the Reasons

1. Incomplete e-KYC — The most common reason. If e-KYC is not complete, the payment is withheld. Complete e-KYC immediately using the method given above.

2. Bank account not linked with Aadhaar — DBT money comes only to Aadhaar-seeded accounts. Visit your bank and confirm the link.

3. Name mismatch in Aadhaar — If the name in the application does not match the Aadhaar card, the payment gets stuck.

4. Found ineligible — Family income above Rs 2.5 lakh, an income taxpayer or government employee in the family, or owning a four-wheeler (except tractor) — if any condition is broken, the installment stops.

5. Duplicate application — Payments have been stopped for more than two applications from one family or duplicate entries caught in verification.

If the problem continues, call helpline 181 or visit your nearest Anganwadi centre.
