PMMVY Yojana 2026: Rs 5,000 + Rs 6,000 Maternity Benefit — Eligibility, Apply Online, Status Check

Updated: 28 October 2026

Quick facts: Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a maternity benefit scheme of the Ministry of Women and Child Development for pregnant and lactating mothers. It pays Rs 5,000 for the first child in two instalments (Rs 3,000 + Rs 2,000) and Rs 6,000 in a single instalment for a second child if she is a girl. Payment is made by direct benefit transfer (DBT) into an Aadhaar-linked bank or post office account. Register at an Anganwadi Centre or approved health facility, with help from the Anganwadi Worker, ASHA or ANM, or on the official portal pmmvy.wcd.gov.in. Note: PMMVY is separate from Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY); JSY is a separate incentive and is not a PMMVY instalment.

Face-auth and biometric verification: PMMVY uses the Facial Recognition System (FRS) in Poshan Tracker. The Anganwadi Worker captures the beneficiary’s face once and completes eKYC, with a one-time password (OTP) sent to the Aadhaar-registered mobile number. The verified photo is stored, and later face matching compares a newly captured photo with that verified photo. The Ministry states that FRS has been leveraged for PMMVY purposes from 31 May 2025, and that from 1 August 2025 FRS made registration of all beneficiaries mandatory. The 1 July 2025 mandatory date in the same official release applies to Take-Home Ration (THR) distribution, not to PMMVY payments. If your face verification is still pending, ask your Anganwadi Worker to re-check or re-capture it; the official release checked does not state a separate PMMVY payment consequence for a failed or pending match, and no self-service face-auth step beyond the Anganwadi Worker process above has been confirmed.

Grievance redressal: If there is a problem with your PMMVY application or payment, you can register a grievance through the PMMVY Grievance Module on the PMMVY portal (pmmvy.wcd.gov.in), launched in February 2025, and track its live status on the portal. Keep the details shown by the portal when you file, and follow up through the portal’s live status, your Anganwadi Centre, or the multilingual PMMVY helpline 1515. No official reference-number format or formal escalation ladder was confirmed, so this guide does not invent one.

Payment tracking: Use the Track Your Application module on the official PMMVY portal (pmmvy.wcd.gov.in) to check the live status of your application and instalments. You can also ask at your Anganwadi Centre. Before following up, check that your bank or post office account is Aadhaar-seeded for DBT, and that the conditions for the instalment are complete (pregnancy registration and ANC for the first instalment; birth registration and the first immunisation cycle for the later instalment).

New FAQs – Is face-auth mandatory? Yes, for registration: FRS registration of all beneficiaries was made mandatory from 1 August 2025, and FRS has been leveraged for PMMVY purposes from 31 May 2025, through the Anganwadi Worker process above. How do I file a grievance? Through the PMMVY Grievance Module on pmmvy.wcd.gov.in, with live status tracking on the portal, or by calling helpline 1515. Why is my payment delayed? First check the Track Your Application status, Aadhaar seeding of your account, and whether the instalment conditions are complete, then follow up at your Anganwadi Centre or on helpline 1515; no automatic delay period or stoppage rule is stated in the official sources checked. What is the second-child rule? PMMVY pays Rs 6,000 in one instalment for a second child only if she is a girl, after birth registration and the first immunisation cycle; there is no PMMVY benefit for a second child who is a boy.

Latest Update (October 2026): Rs 21,800+ Crore to 4.76+ Crore Mothers

A two-day Departmental Summit on Women and Child Development was held in New Delhi on 8-9 October 2026. It was shared there that under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), more than 4.76 crore mothers have so far received maternity benefits of over Rs 21,800 crore directly into bank accounts via DBT.

Two major decisions came out of the summit. First — the scheme’s payment mechanism is being migrated to SNA-SPARSH, with the PMMVY portal being linked to the Integrated Financial Management Information System of States and Union Territories. Second — a benchmark has been set that beneficiaries should receive the money within 30 days of applying.

For any query or complaint, call the PMMVY toll-free helpline 1515 (live from 1 November 2025; it replaced the earlier 14408). PMMVY Cell: 011-23382393. Official portal: pmmvy.wcd.gov.in.

During pregnancy, a woman needs rest more than anything else — yet in many families, this is exactly the time when work stops and income stops too. Doctor visits, nutritious food, medicines and preparations for the baby’s arrival — everything costs money.

To make this difficult time a little easier, the central government runs a scheme that pays money directly into the bank accounts of pregnant and lactating women. In this article, we explain in simple language — what the scheme is, how much money you get, who is eligible, how to apply, and how to check your installment status. At the end, you will find answers to the most common questions.

What Is PMMVY Yojana?

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a central government maternity benefit scheme. Its purpose is to partly compensate pregnant and lactating women for the wage loss during pregnancy and after childbirth, so that they can take adequate rest and focus on proper nutrition and health check-ups.

The scheme was launched on 1 January 2017. Since April 2022, it runs as PMMVY 2.0, under the Samarthya component of Mission Shakti. PMMVY 2.0 brought one big change — now the benefit is also available for the second living child, if the second child is a girl. The aim is to promote a positive attitude towards girls and improve the sex ratio at birth.

The money comes through DBT directly into the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank or post office account. There is no middleman, and there is no fee for applying.

How Much Money Do You Get? Full Installment Details

This is the most important part — and also where the most confusion exists. Many older articles still show the old 3-installment structure (Rs. 1,000 + Rs. 2,000 + Rs. 2,000). That was the structure before PMMVY 2.0. Under the current PMMVY 2.0 rules, the first two installments have been merged into a single Rs. 3,000 installment.

First child — total Rs. 5,000 (in two installments)

Installment Amount When it is paid
First installment Rs. 3,000 After pregnancy registration + at least one antenatal check-up (ANC)
Second installment Rs. 2,000 After the child’s birth registration + first cycle of immunization (BCG, OPV, DPT, Hepatitis-B)

Second child, if a girl — Rs. 6,000 (single installment)

Installment Amount When it is paid
One-time Rs. 6,000 After the second girl child’s birth registration + first cycle of immunization

So a family can receive a maximum of Rs. 11,000 (Rs. 5,000 for the first child + Rs. 6,000 for the second girl child). Note — if the second child is a boy, no PMMVY benefit is given for him.

How Does It Relate to Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)?

The PMMVY benefit is separate from the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) benefit. JSY gives an incentive for institutional delivery (delivery in a hospital), while PMMVY is cash support linked to pregnancy care and the child’s early immunization. A woman who is eligible for both can receive both benefits — so the total support can be around Rs. 6,000 or more. Ask about both schemes at your Anganwadi Centre.

Who Is Eligible? All Conditions

  • Age: The woman must be 19 years or above at the time of the first pregnancy.
  • First child: The benefit is for the family’s first living child.
  • Second child: For the second living child, the benefit is given only if the second child is a girl.
  • Indian citizen: The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
  • Who is NOT eligible: Women in regular employment with the Central Government, State Government or a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) are not eligible. Women already receiving similar maternity benefits under another scheme are also not eligible.

Documents Required

Keep these documents ready at the time of application:

  • Aadhaar card of the beneficiary (husband’s Aadhaar may also be asked)
  • Aadhaar-linked bank or post office account details
  • MCP card (Mother and Child Protection Card) or RCHI card — with the LMP (Last Menstrual Period) date and ANC details
  • Child’s birth certificate and immunization details (for the second installment)
  • Eligibility proof — any one as asked, such as BPL ration card, e-Shram card, MGNREGA job card, PMJAY (Ayushman) card or income certificate
  • Mobile number of the beneficiary / husband / family member

How to Apply? Step-by-Step

There are two ways to apply — through the Anganwadi Centre (easiest and most common) and through the online portal.

Method 1: Through the Anganwadi Centre (easiest)

Step 1: Visit your nearest Anganwadi Centre or approved health facility. Collect the PMMVY form (Form 1-A) from there.

Step 2: Fill the form with correct details of the pregnancy, Aadhaar and bank account, and attach the required documents.

Step 3: Submit the filled form at the same Anganwadi Centre / health facility. The Anganwadi Worker (AWW), ASHA or ANM will help with the online registration on the PMMVY portal.

Step 4: After registration, you will get a registration number — keep it safe.

Method 2: Through the online portal

Step 1: Open the official portal pmmvy.wcd.gov.in and register through the Citizen Login option.

Step 2: Fill in the required details — Aadhaar number, mobile number, bank / post office account details, and eligibility proof.

Step 3: Upload the required documents, including the MCP / RCHI card, LMP date, ANC details, child birth certificate and immunization details.

Step 4: Submit the application. After approval by the State Nodal Officer, the benefit amount is credited directly to your Aadhaar-linked bank or post office account through DBT.

For most women, the Anganwadi Centre method is easier, because the worker there helps with filling the form and attaching documents.

How to Check Installment Status?

Step 1: Open pmmvy.wcd.gov.in.

Step 2: Go to the status-check option.

Step 3: Enter your Registration Number.

Step 4: Your installment status will be shown — pending, approved, or payment made.

You also get an SMS alert when a payment is made, and you can ask about your status at your Anganwadi Centre.

Why Does the Payment Get Stuck? Common Reasons and Fixes

  • Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded: Aadhaar seeding is mandatory for DBT — get it done at your bank / post office.
  • MCP card has incomplete LMP / ANC details: Get the MCP card completed with help from your Anganwadi Worker.
  • Child’s birth registration or immunization is incomplete: The second installment needs birth registration + the first cycle of immunization.
  • Error in name / Aadhaar: If the name, Aadhaar number or bank details in the form are wrong, the payment gets stuck — get it corrected at the Anganwadi Centre.
  • Benefit already taken in the family: As per the rules, PMMVY benefit is only for the first child and (if a girl) the second child — it is not given for further children.

Beware of Fraud — Remember These 5 Things

  • Applying for PMMVY is free — anyone who asks for money to “get the payment faster” is a fraudster.
  • The only official portal is pmmvy.wcd.gov.in — beware of fake websites with similar names.
  • Never share your OTP, Aadhaar number or bank details with any unknown person.
  • The government never sends messages like “click this link to get Rs. 5,000” on phone or WhatsApp.
  • The form is available free at the Anganwadi Centre — do not buy it from any shop or agent for money.
