What is the Cheyutha Pension Scheme?

The Cheyutha Pension Scheme is the Telangana government’s social security pension scheme, which gives monthly financial support to the state’s poor and needy people. Under the scheme, elderly people, widows, single women, persons with disabilities, weavers, toddy tappers (Geetha workers), beedi workers and patients suffering from serious diseases receive a monthly pension.

The scheme began on 1 October 2014 as the Aasara Pension Scheme. At that time Telangana was governed by the BRS government under Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). Its guidelines were issued through G.O.Ms.No.17 (PR&RD, 5 November 2014), and the income limits were fixed in G.O.Ms.No.23 of 2014. After the Congress government came to power in December 2023, the scheme came to be known as Cheyutha. The Cheyutha umbrella scheme was launched on 9 December 2023, and it included the promise of a higher pension and the ₹10 lakh Rajiv Aarogyasri health cover. Today the portal runs under the Cheyutha name, but the dashboard and records still call the benefit “Aasara” — so do not worry if you see the word Aasara on the portal; it is the same scheme.

The scheme is run in rural areas by the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), and in urban areas by the municipal authorities. The pension amount is sent directly to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account through DBT, usually in the first week of the month.

How Much Pension Is Actually Paid — ₹2,016 or ₹4,000?

This is the biggest confusion about the scheme, and this is where our information differs from other websites. As of November 2026, the pension actually being paid in Telangana is ₹2,016 per month for most categories, and ₹4,016 per month for persons with disabilities. This is the amount reaching beneficiaries’ accounts.

The figure of ₹4,000 per month (and ₹6,000 for persons with disabilities) was the Congress party’s promise in the 2023 Assembly election. That promise has not been implemented yet. Telangana Today reported on 1 October 2026 that even three years on, senior citizens in Telangana are still waiting for the Congress ₹4,000 pension promise. So websites that present ₹4,000 as today’s pension are giving wrong information.

Some websites also claim the pension was doubled from February 2025. No government order (GO) or reliable news report supports that claim, so do not treat it as true. The real history of the pension amount is as follows:

Period General categories Persons with disabilities
Launch (2014) ₹1,000 per month ₹1,500 per month
June 2019 (G.O.Ms.No.34, 28 May 2019) ₹2,016 per month ₹3,016 per month
July 2023 ₹2,016 per month (no change) ₹4,016 per month
November 2026 (today) ₹2,016 per month ₹4,016 per month

In other words, the pension for general categories has stayed at ₹2,016 since 2019. The government has allocated ₹14,861 crore for Cheyutha pensions in the 2026-27 budget, but no official order has yet been issued on the ₹4,000 promise. If the amount is raised in future, we will update this article at that time. Until then, treat ₹2,016 / ₹4,016 as the correct amount.

The Big News of 8 November 2026: 4.5 Lakh New Pensions Sanctioned

The biggest news about the scheme in November 2026 is that the Telangana government has sanctioned about 4.5 lakh new Cheyutha pensions. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy was to begin distributing sanction letters to beneficiaries at a programme in Kodangal (his constituency, Vikarabad district) on Sunday, 8 November 2026, after which ministers and officials were to distribute letters across the districts. This information is based on reports published before the programme, so we describe the Kodangal distribution as scheduled and announced for 8 November — whether it took place exactly as scheduled should be confirmed separately.

The break-up of these 4.5 lakh new pensions is: about 3 lakh widows and single women, about 1 lakh persons with disabilities, and about 50,000 handloom / weaver and toddy tapper (Geetha) workers. The first payment to these new beneficiaries has been announced for 19 November 2026. 19 November is the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi, and on the same day the Indiramma Family Life Insurance scheme and Indiramma sarees are also to be launched in Siddipet.

Applications for this drive were taken between 10 August and 15 September 2026. The period was first announced up to 31 August, but was apparently extended to 15 September. Verification was carried out through SERP. The drive was announced in advance by PR&RD Minister Danasari Anasuya Seethakka at a women’s SHG meeting in Hakimpet on 7 November.

The Budget Question: 2 Lakh Promised, 4.5 Lakh Announced

There is an important gap here that should be understood. The 2026-27 budget had promised only 2 lakh new pensions, but now 4.5 lakh new pensions have been announced — more than double the budget promise. No additional allocation figure has been publicly announced for this extra number. It is also not stated in the announcement whether these 4.5 lakh new pensioners will be paid ₹2,016 / ₹4,016 or some higher rate — no amount was specified in the announcement, and we state that honestly rather than guessing.

Who Was Left Out This Time? Old-Age Pension Was Not in This Round

The August 2026 drive covered 7 categories, but it excluded old-age pensioners, HIV patients, beedi workers and beedi contractors. That means the 4.5 lakh new pensions are mostly widows, single women, persons with disabilities, weavers and toddy tappers — old-age applicants were NOT in this round. If you want to apply for an old-age pension, you will have to wait for the next drive to be announced. No deadline for the next drive has been announced, so do not trust any date shown on other websites.

Who Gets the Pension? All Categories

The Cheyutha Pension Scheme has many categories. Each category has its own age and conditions. The table below lists the main categories and the pension currently paid:

Category Age / Condition Pension (per month)
Old Age 57 years or above (age limit cut from 65 to 57 in August 2021) ₹2,016
Widow 18 years or above; husband’s death certificate required ₹2,016
Single Women Separated married women 18+ (separated for at least 1 year); unmarried women 30+ in rural areas / 35+ in urban areas ₹2,016
Persons with Disabilities No age limit; SADAREM certificate of 40% or more (51% or more for hearing impairment) ₹4,016
Weavers / Handloom 50 years or above ₹2,016
Toddy Tappers (Geetha Workers) 50 years or above ₹2,016
Beedi Workers Age and EPF conditions apply — check the exact rules on the portal (sources disagree on the age) ₹2,016
HIV / AIDS, Filariasis, Dialysis Patients No age limit; medical certificate required ₹2,016 (the dialysis amount is disputed, so we do not state a figure)
Poor and Aged Artists 57 years or above ₹2,016
Stone Cutters Conditions apply (this category is recorded in only one source) ₹2,016

Disability Pension — the Highest Amount, With Special Rules

Persons with disabilities receive the highest pension under this scheme — ₹4,016 per month. There is no age limit, so even a child can be eligible. Disability must be proved with a SADAREM certificate showing disability of 40 percent or more. For hearing impairment, the limit is 51 percent or more. Under the RPwD Act 2016, 21 types of disabilities are recognised.

Widow and Single Women Pension

For a widow pension, the woman must be 18 years or above and must provide her husband’s death certificate. Single women include two groups — married women who have lived separately from their husband for at least one year, and unmarried women aged 30 years or above in rural areas and 35 years or above in urban areas. Young widows (up to 45 years) are re-checked every year to confirm they have not remarried.

The One-Pension-Per-Family Rule

In several categories, a “one pension per family” rule applies. This means two members of the same family cannot both receive a pension in the same category. However, widow pension and disability pension are treated separately — so if a family has a widowed mother and a disabled son, both pensions can be sanctioned separately. Before applying, ask your village Panchayat Secretary or municipal office how this rule applies to your family.

Eligibility — Who Can Apply?

To apply in any category, these basic conditions must be met:

  • The applicant must be a resident of Telangana.
  • The family must hold a BPL ration card or a white (food security) ration card.
  • The applicant must belong to the relevant category (elderly, widow, disabled, and so on).
  • Family income must be below ₹1.5 lakh per year in rural areas and below ₹2 lakh per year in urban areas.

Who Will NOT Get the Pension? (Exclusions)

  • Those who own more than 3 acres of wet / irrigated dry land, or more than 7.5 acres of dry land.
  • Those whose children are in government, public, private, outsourced or contract jobs, or are doctors, contractors, professionals or self-employed.
  • Those running a large business — such as an oil mill, rice mill, rig or shop.
  • Those who own a light or heavy motor vehicle (car).
  • Those already receiving a government pension or a freedom-fighter pension.
  • Those whose household is found ineligible on lifestyle or assets by the verification officer.

Please note: some websites claim that income-tax payers are excluded — that claim is not verified, so we do not list it as a condition. The final check of eligibility is done by the local verification officer.

How to Apply — Step-by-Step Guide (Offline Only)

First, understand this clearly: there is no direct online application for the Cheyutha pension. You can download the form from the portal and check your status there, but the application must be submitted offline. Be careful of any website that shows an “Apply Online” button and asks you to fill a form.

Step 1 — Get the Application Form

Download the application form from cheyutha.telangana.gov.in (available in English and Telugu), or collect it from your nearest Gram Panchayat, MPDO office, municipal office or MeeSeva centre.

Step 2 — Fill the Form and Attach Documents

Fill in your correct details — name, age, category, bank account details and address — and attach copies of the documents listed below. Giving wrong information in the form can lead to rejection of the application.

Step 3 — Submit the Form

Submit the filled form at one of these places: in rural areas, the Gram Panchayat or MPDO office; in urban areas, the municipal office, the GHMC Deputy Commissioner or the Bill Collector; or at a Praja Palana Seva Kendram / MeeSeva centre, where staff help with assisted digital submission.

Step 4 — Local Verification

Your application is checked by local officials — the Panchayat Secretary or VRO in rural areas, and the Bill Collector in urban areas. They verify your documents and eligibility. After verification, your details are entered on the Cheyutha portal.

Step 5 — Sanction

After verification, the file goes to the DRDO, and the final sanction is given by the District Collector. On sanction, you receive a sanction letter and your name is added to the pensioner list.

Step 6 — Payment

After sanction, the pension is sent by DBT to your Aadhaar-linked bank account every month, usually in the first week of the month. The first instalment can take a few weeks after sanction.

Documents Required for Application

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Age proof (birth certificate / school certificate / voter ID)
  • Income certificate or white ration card
  • Bank or post-office passbook (first page) + IFSC code
  • Passport-size photograph
  • Residence proof
  • Category proof — death certificate of husband (widow); SADAREM certificate (disabled); occupation proof or ID (weaver / toddy / beedi worker); medical certificate (HIV / filariasis / dialysis); self-declaration (single women)

Keep the originals of all documents with you as well, because officials may ask to see them during verification.

How to Check Your Name and Pension Status

After submitting your application, or after sanction, check your status on the official portal cheyutha.telangana.gov.in as follows:

New Applicants — Is My Name in the New Sanctions List?

On the portal, go to Quick Search and choose “New Sanctions Applicants Search”. Enter your Application ID or Aadhaar / UID number to search. You can also view the list by choosing District → Mandal / Municipality → Gram Panchayat / Ward. The 4.5 lakh names sanctioned in November 2026 can be checked in this way.

Existing Pensioners — My Pension Details

In Quick Search, choose “Search Pensioner Details” and enter your Pension ID, UID or SADAREM ID. This will show your pension category, amount and status.

Payment Check — Has the Pension Reached My Account?

Open the Acquittance Data Report page on the portal, select the financial year and month, then search by your SKS ID or UID. This will show which month’s pension has been sent to your account. If the portal shows the payment but the money has not reached your account, contact your bank and check your Aadhaar linking. If the portal itself does not show the payment, contact your Panchayat Secretary / Bill Collector or the DRDO office.

New Facilities and Precautions in 2026

Instant Pension for Widows — 31 October 2026

From 31 October 2026, the government has extended the “instant pension” facility. Earlier it applied only to the widow of a deceased old-age pensioner; now it also applies to widows of deceased pensioners in the disabled, toddy tapper, handloom, dialysis, HIV and filariasis categories. If a pensioner dies, a widow below 57 years gets widow pension, and a widow aged 57 or above gets old-age pension. Apply to the Panchayat Secretary (rural) or Bill Collector (urban) with the wife’s Aadhaar, the first page of her bank passbook, the husband’s Aadhaar and his death certificate.

Facial-Recognition Verification Drive

In 2026 the government ran a facial-recognition verification drive for pensioners, after reports that pensions were still being paid in the names of deceased beneficiaries. In parts of Hyderabad, about 40 percent of beneficiaries were yet to be verified and the deadline was extended. If you are called for verification, carry your Aadhaar and pension ID and complete it on time, otherwise your pension can stop.

Beware of Fraud

If anyone asks you for money in the name of the pension, do not pay. The application and verification process is completely free. No agent or middleman can get your pension sanctioned faster. Never share your OTP, bank password or Aadhaar details with any unknown person. Use only the official portal cheyutha.telangana.gov.in for information.

Budget 2026-27: How Much Money Is Set Aside for Pensions?

The Telangana government has allocated ₹14,861 crore for Cheyutha pensions in the 2026-27 budget. The state’s total budget is ₹3,24,234 crore, presented by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on 20 March 2026. A total of ₹50,713 crore has been set aside for the six guarantees. Please note: the same ₹14,861 crore figure was also reported for 2025-26 in some reports, so we quote it only for 2026-27.

1. How much pension is actually paid under the Cheyutha Pension Scheme — ₹2,016 or ₹4,000?

The amount actually paid now is ₹2,016 per month (₹4,016 for persons with disabilities). ₹4,000 (₹6,000 for disabled persons) was the Congress party’s 2023 election promise, which has not been implemented yet. According to Telangana Today (1 October 2026), senior citizens are still waiting for this promise even after three years.

2. When will the ₹4,000 pension be given?

No official date has been announced. Until the government issues a GO on this, ₹2,016 will continue to be paid. Do not trust any date shown on other websites — wait for an announcement on the official portal.

3. How do I check whether my name is in the new 4.5 lakh list?

Go to cheyutha.telangana.gov.in, open Quick Search → “New Sanctions Applicants Search”, and enter your Application ID or Aadhaar / UID. You can also view the list by choosing District → Mandal → Gram Panchayat. The first payment has been announced for 19 November 2026.

4. When will applications open for old-age pension?

5. How do I apply online for the Cheyutha pension?

There is no direct online application. Download the form from the portal or collect it from an office, fill it, and submit it at the Gram Panchayat / MPDO office (rural) or municipal / GHMC office (urban), or at a MeeSeva centre. After verification, the District Collector sanctions the pension.

6. What should I do if the pension has not reached my account?

First check your payment status in the Acquittance Data Report on the portal. If the portal shows the payment, check Aadhaar linking at your bank. If the portal does not show the payment, contact your Panchayat Secretary / Bill Collector or the DRDO office.

From 31 October 2026, the instant pension facility applies to several categories. A widow below 57 years gets widow pension, and a widow aged 57 or above gets old-age pension.

There is no difference — it is the same scheme. It was called the Aasara Pension Scheme in 2014, and after December 2023 it came to be called Cheyutha. The portal still shows “Aasara” in many places, which is the old name of the same scheme.
