Ladki Bahin Yojana 2026: Rs 1,500 Every Month, Eligibility and eKYC Guide

Rs 1,500 every month in the bank accounts of crores of women in Maharashtra — that is the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, the state’s biggest women empowerment scheme. But a lot has changed in 2026: lakhs of names were removed after verification, eKYC has been made mandatory, and new applications are closed for now.

In this article you will find: the scheme’s latest status as of October 2026, how and when the Rs 1,500 reaches you every month, who is eligible and who is not, why eKYC is compulsory and how to complete it, how to check your status and payment, and answers to common questions. Let us go through everything one by one.

Latest status: the scheme continues, but rules are stricter (October 2026)

Let us clear the most important point first — the Ladki Bahin Yojana has NOT been stopped. Eligible women will keep receiving the Rs 1,500 monthly assistance through DBT; the state government has confirmed this several times.

However, in 2025-26 the government ran a large verification drive. Around 92 lakh accounts found ineligible were removed from the list — about 38 percent of total enrolment. The main reasons were: incomplete eKYC, being income-tax payers, holding government jobs, or not meeting the eligibility conditions. After this scrutiny, the beneficiary count stands at around 1.5 crore women.

The government has also clarified that recovery of wrongly-paid amounts will be done only from male beneficiaries and government employees — ordinary women will not be asked to return money received earlier.

New applications are currently closed. The government has made no announcement about reopening the registration window. Women who are already beneficiaries only need to keep their eKYC complete.

What is the scheme?

The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana is a Maharashtra government scheme approved on 28 June 2024. Its objective is to give women economic independence, improve their health and nutrition, and strengthen their decision-making role in the family.

Under the scheme, eligible women aged 21 to 65 years receive Rs 1,500 every month directly in their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). Over a year this adds up to Rs 18,000 — a significant help for poor and middle-class women towards household expenses, children’s education, or small savings.

The scheme is run by the Women and Child Development Department, and the official portal is ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in.

How does the Rs 1,500 reach you every month?

The money comes directly to your bank account every month — no middleman is involved. Two things are essential for this:

  • Aadhaar-linked bank account: Your bank account must be linked with Aadhaar (DBT/NPCI seeded). Without the Aadhaar link, the money will not be credited, even if you are eligible.
  • Completed eKYC: Every beneficiary must complete eKYC once a year. If eKYC is incomplete, the monthly installment is withheld.

When does the money arrive? Usually the installment reaches accounts between the 5th and 15th of the month. No official date has been announced for the October 2026 installment as of now — keep checking your payment status on the portal for the latest position.

One important point: If you also receive help from another state scheme — such as the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi (Rs 1,000 per month) — the Ladki Bahin amount is adjusted so that your total monthly benefit does not cross the Rs 1,500 cap. In such cases you receive Rs 500 from Ladki Bahin. This is not a cut; it is the rule against double benefits beyond the cap.

Who is eligible?

According to the official portal, the eligibility conditions are:

  • Must be a permanent resident of Maharashtra.
  • Age must be between 21 and 65 years.
  • Married, widowed, divorced, abandoned and destitute women are eligible.
  • Only one unmarried woman per family can also be eligible.
  • The beneficiary must have a bank account in her own name linked with Aadhaar.
  • Family annual income must not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh.

A relief point: Families holding a Yellow or Orange ration card do not need to submit a separate income certificate — the Rs 2.5 lakh income limit is automatically considered satisfied for them.

Who will NOT get the benefit?

Applications are rejected, or names removed from the list, in these situations:

  • Family annual income is more than Rs 2.5 lakh.
  • Any family member is an income-tax payer.
  • Any family member holds a government job or is a government official/former MP/MLA.
  • The family owns a four-wheeler (except tractors).
  • The applicant is male — thousands of male accounts were caught in verification and closed.

Documents required

  • Aadhaar card (mobile number should be linked)
  • Domicile certificate
  • Ration card
  • Income certificate (waived for Yellow/Orange ration card holders)
  • Bank passbook (Aadhaar-linked account)
  • Mobile number
  • Passport-size photograph
  • For widows/divorcees: the relevant certificate (death certificate/court order)

Why is eKYC mandatory and how to do it?

As per the government resolution, every beneficiary must complete eKYC every year. The first annual eKYC window was open from 1 June to 15 July 2026. If eKYC is not done, the Rs 1,500 monthly installment is withheld — so do not take it lightly.

Steps for online eKYC:

  1. Open the official portal ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in.
  2. Click Applicant Login and log in with your registered mobile number and password.
  3. Click the e-KYC banner/tab on the dashboard.
  4. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the captcha, then request an OTP.
  5. Enter the OTP received on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number and click Submit.
  6. If you see a “Success” message, your eKYC is complete — keep a screenshot safe.

Offline option: eKYC can also be done free of cost by visiting your nearest Anganwadi Centre, Setu Kendra or Tehsil Office — carry your Aadhaar card.

Caution: Read questions like “Is any family member a government employee?” carefully during eKYC — in the last cycle many women selected the wrong answer, which got their accounts flagged.

How to check your status and payment?

  1. Open the portal ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in.
  2. Log in through Applicant Login with your registered mobile number and password.
  3. Click Application Status or Payment History.
  4. You will see whether your application is approved or pending, along with the payment details of every installment.

Real-time payment status can also be seen through the Nari Shakti Doot App.

What to do if the money has not arrived?

  • First check your payment status on the portal — it shows the reason for “On Hold” or “Pending”.
  • If eKYC is incomplete, complete it immediately.
  • Confirm at your bank that the account is Aadhaar-linked (DBT enabled).
  • The name spelling on Aadhaar and the bank account must match — a mismatch blocks the payment.
  • If the problem continues, call helpline 181 or visit your nearest Anganwadi centre.

Beware of fake websites and fraudsters

  • The only official portal is ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in — a website not ending in .gov.in or .maharashtra.gov.in may be fake.
  • There is no application fee for the scheme.
  • Never share your OTP, UPI PIN, ATM PIN or bank password with anyone.
  • Do not enter Aadhaar or bank details on unknown links received through WhatsApp or Facebook.
  • Stay away from agents who demand money promising faster approval.

How is the scheme helping women?

Rs 1,500 a month may not sound like a large amount, but for lakhs of families it has become a regular and reliable source of income. According to government figures, more than 1.5 crore women are connected to this scheme — making it Maharashtra’s largest women-focused cash assistance programme so far.

Reports suggest many women use this money for everyday household expenses, children’s school fees, medicines, and small savings. Some women have also used it to support tiny ventures — such as tailoring, a grocery corner, or a vegetable cart. Because the money comes through DBT directly into the woman’s own account, it strengthens both her economic role and her say in household decisions.

The mandatory eKYC and Aadhaar-linked accounts have also connected lakhs of women to formal banking for the first time — an important indirect benefit of the scheme.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Is the Ladki Bahin Yojana still running? Yes. The scheme continues and eligible women will keep receiving Rs 1,500 every month — the government has confirmed this. Only ineligible accounts were removed.

Have new applications started? No. New registrations are currently closed, and there is no official announcement about reopening them.

What happens if I do not complete eKYC? The Rs 1,500 monthly installment will be withheld. eKYC is mandatory every year.

Why did I receive only Rs 500? If you are also a beneficiary of another scheme like the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi (Rs 1,000/month), your total monthly benefit is capped at Rs 1,500 — so you receive Rs 500 from Ladki Bahin.

What is the age limit? 21 to 65 years. The benefit stops once you complete 65 years of age.

Can an unmarried woman apply? Only one unmarried woman per family can be eligible.

Which account will the money go to? Only your own Aadhaar-linked (DBT-enabled) bank account. Without the Aadhaar link, the money will not arrive.
