What Is the Sahara Refund Portal?

The Sahara Refund Portal is an official online portal created by the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS) under the Ministry of Cooperation. Its work is to return the money deposited in four Sahara cooperative societies to their genuine depositors. This portal was launched on 18 July 2023.

This portal began with an order of the Supreme Court. On 29 March 2023, the Supreme Court ordered that ₹5,000 crore be transferred from the Sahara-SEBI Refund Account to CRCS, so that depositors could get their money back. After this order, CRCS created this portal and the refund process began.

Before applying on this portal, it is important to understand that this portal is only for people who deposited money in the four specified societies. If you deposited money in some other Sahara company or some other scheme, you cannot claim on this portal. That is why it is first necessary to check whether your society is one of these four or not.

This portal is only the place where you register your claim. After that, your documents and claim are checked. If everything is found correct, the refund is sent to your Aadhaar-seeded bank account. This money comes directly to your account, not through any agent or middleman.

Which 4 Societies Are Covered?

Only depositors of four societies can claim on this portal. Their names and cities are given in the table below. Check the society name on your passbook, receipt or deposit certificate to see whether your society is one of them.

Society name City
Sahara Credit Cooperative Society Ltd Lucknow
Saharayan Universal Multipurpose Society Ltd Bhopal
Humara India Credit Cooperative Society Ltd Kolkata
Stars Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd Hyderabad

If your society is one of these four, you can claim on this portal. If your society is none of these four, you cannot claim on this portal. In that case, you should check the latest update on the website of the Ministry of Cooperation or CRCS for official information, and you should not believe any agent.

Another important point — look carefully at the society name, your membership number, the date of deposit and the amount on your documents. All this information will be needed when you claim. Even if you do not have old receipts or a passbook, first try to check your information on the portal, and read the documents list in the section below.

Latest Update — 8 September 2026

On 8 September 2026, the Ministry of Cooperation announced that the portal had been restored and processing of pending claims had resumed. With this announcement, new figures were also given, showing how much refund had been made so far and how many people were still waiting.

As of 8 September 2026, ₹9,267 crore had been refunded to 41,56,711 depositors. At the same time, about 20 lakh applications were still pending. These figures show that the refund process is going on, but lakhs of people are still waiting for their turn. That is why it is very important to file your claim correctly and with complete information, so that your claim moves ahead without any block.

Before this, official figures up to February 2026 had also been given. By that time, 1,45,15,611 applications and 4,06,25,476 claims had been filed. Of these, ₹8,783.55 crore had been refunded to 40,33,448 investors. These figures show the scale on which claims came in and how many people had already received refunds.

The Supreme Court has also ordered an additional transfer of ₹5,000 crore and extended the disbursement date to 31 December 2026. This means the refund process will run until 31 December 2026. What will happen after this date can be said only when official information comes. That is why you should trust only the official portal and the information of the Ministry of Cooperation.

So far, a refund of up to ₹50,000 is being given against a verified claim. This amount is a limit for every depositor, and it is given on the basis of a verified claim. This does not mean that every person will immediately get ₹50,000. Only after your claim is checked will it be decided how much refund you will get and when you will get it.

Documents Checklist — Keep These Ready Before Applying

Keeping all your documents ready before applying is very important. If any document is incomplete or wrong, your claim can stop or even be returned. Check the list below one by one and keep every document ready.

The first document is the Aadhaar Card. Your Aadhaar Card must be linked to your bank account, because the refund is sent only to an Aadhaar-seeded bank account. Your name, date of birth and address on Aadhaar must be correct. If there is any mistake in Aadhaar, get it corrected first.

The second document is the PAN Card. The PAN Card may be needed for your identity and for checking your claim. The name on your PAN Card and the name on Aadhaar must be the same. If the names differ in the two, there can be a problem in the claim.

The third document is bank account information. Your bank account must be linked to Aadhaar. Keep a copy of your bank passbook or bank statement ready. The account number and IFSC code must be correct. If your bank account has been closed or any change has happened in it, first get the information updated from the bank.

The fourth document is proof related to your Sahara deposit. This can include your passbook, deposit receipt, certificate or membership information. The society name, your membership number, the deposit amount and the date must be clearly visible on these documents. Keep them safe and keep a clear photo or scanned copy ready.

The fifth document is your mobile number. Your mobile number must be linked to Aadhaar, because the OTP will come on this number on the portal. If your mobile number has changed, first update it in Aadhaar. Without the OTP, you will not be able to move ahead on the portal.

One more point — keep both the original copy of all your documents and their clear scanned copies safe. When you upload on the portal, the photo must be clear and readable. Uploading a blurred or half photo can stop your claim.

How to Apply on the Sahara Refund Portal — Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Open the official portal. On your mobile or computer, type https://mocrefund.crcs.gov.in in the browser. Make sure the address is exactly correct. Do not reach the portal by clicking on any other website or any link. Use only this official address.

Step 2: Enter your information on the portal. On the portal, you will have to enter your Aadhaar number and the mobile number linked to it. After this, an OTP will come on your mobile. Enter that OTP on the portal and move ahead. Do not share the OTP with anyone.

Step 3: Fill in your claim form. In the form, fill in your name, Aadhaar information, society name, membership number, deposit information and bank account information correctly. Do not fill in any information wrongly. While filling the form, keep your documents in front of you, so that every detail can be filled in correctly.

Step 4: Upload the documents. Upload the documents asked for on the portal as a clear scanned copy or photo. Every document must be clear and readable. After uploading, check once again whether the correct document has been uploaded or not.

Step 5: Submit the form. Before submitting, read the whole form once again. If you see any mistake, correct it immediately. After submitting, you will get an acknowledgement or claim number. Keep it safe, because this number will be needed to check the status.

Step 6: Save the acknowledgement. Save a copy of the acknowledgement received after submitting, or take a screenshot of it. It will have your claim number and your information. This number will be very useful later for checking status or if there is any problem.

How to Check Your Refund Status

Step 1: Open the official portal https://mocrefund.crcs.gov.in. To check status too, use only this official portal. Do not enter your claim number or Aadhaar number on any other website.

Step 2: Choose the option to check status on the portal. There you will have to enter your claim number or Aadhaar-related information. You may also have to enter your mobile number, on which an OTP will come.

Step 3: Enter the OTP and move ahead. After the OTP comes, enter it on the portal. Do not share the OTP with anyone. After entering the OTP, your claim status will be shown on the screen.

Step 4: Read the status carefully. The status may show that your claim is in process, has been verified, the refund has been sent, or there is a deficiency that needs to be corrected. If the status shows any deficiency, read the resubmission section below immediately to correct it.

Step 5: Also check your bank account. If the status shows that the refund has been sent, also check in the passbook or statement of your Aadhaar-seeded bank account whether the money has arrived or not. It may take some time for the money to reach the bank, so do not worry immediately.

Resubmission and How to Correct a Mistake

If your claim has been returned because of some deficiency, or there is some mistake in it, there is a separate portal to correct it — https://mocresubmit.crcs.gov.in. On this portal, you can submit your claim again or correct it.

Step 1: Open the resubmission portal https://mocresubmit.crcs.gov.in. Use only this official address. Do not enter your information on any other website.

Step 2: Enter your claim number and Aadhaar-related information. Verify your identity through OTP. Do not share the OTP with anyone.

Step 3: Read the deficiency shown on the portal carefully. Understand clearly what the deficiency is — whether some document is not clear, some information is wrong, or some document is missing. Only then make the correction.

Step 4: Upload the correct document or fill in the correct information again. This time, the document must be clear and complete. Do not repeat the mistake again. Before submitting the form, check the whole thing once again.

Step 5: After submitting again, save the new acknowledgement. Keep checking the status from time to time on the official portal. Even after resubmission, processing can take time, so be patient.

What to Do If Your Claim Is Rejected or Pending

If your claim has been rejected, it is first important to understand why it was rejected. The reason for rejection may be shown on the portal. Read the reason carefully. If the reason is a deficiency in a document or information, correct it on the resubmission portal and submit it again.

If your claim is pending, it means its checking is still going on. As of 8 September 2026, about 20 lakh applications were pending, so being pending is a common thing. This does not mean your claim has been rejected. Keep checking the status from time to time on the official portal.

If you feel your claim was rejected wrongly, check all your documents once again. The society name, membership number, deposit amount and bank account information must be correct. If everything is correct, submit again on the resubmission portal with the correct information.

In any problem, do not take help from any agent or middleman. If any person promises to get your claim passed quickly by taking money from you, refuse immediately. Your claim will move ahead only on the official portal, not through any agent.

How to Stay Safe from Scams — A Very Important Warning

Many frauds are going on around the Sahara refund. Some people make fake websites, give fake helpline numbers, or pose as agents and take money from people. To stay safe from them, always remember the points below.

First — applying is completely FREE. No person, agent or website can ask you for money for a refund. If anyone asks you for a processing fee, agent fee or any other money, understand that the person is trying to cheat you.

Second — apply only on the official portal. The official portal is https://mocrefund.crcs.gov.in. For resubmission, the official portal is https://mocresubmit.crcs.gov.in. Do not enter your Aadhaar number, OTP or bank information on any other website.

Third — do not share your OTP, Aadhaar number, bank account number or password with anyone. No official person asks you for an OTP on the phone. If anyone asks you for an OTP, cut the call immediately.

Fourth — do not trust any link given in a YouTube video, WhatsApp message or social media post. Many times, wrong information or fake links are given in them. Always reach the official portal only by typing its address yourself.

Fifth — if any person promises you that he will get your full money immediately or get your claim passed in just a few days, do not believe it. The refund process happens only after official checking, and it can take time. Such promises are made only to cheat people.
